This meditation is derived from meditations I (Elle Hull) learned whilst priestess training with the Glastonbury Goddess Temple. The original meditations that inspired this meditation can be found in the book Priestess of Avalon Priestess of the Goddess by Kathy Jones.
Sit on the floor or in a chair in whatever manner is most comfortable for you. Ground, centre and relax yourself in the way that works best for you.
Envisage yourself on the shores of modern day Paphos in Cyprus. Aphrodite’s Rock is in the distance. Her birthplace. The sand is warm beneath your feet. The breeze is gentle and cooling on your face. You distantly hear sea birds who are flying, hovering, diving and playing in the sea breeze. The water of the sea is gently lapping at the shore as waves roll toward the land. There are patches of mist on the shore and across the water. Notice the scene around you and what the weather is like. As you do, you begin walking toward Aphrodite’s Rock. The mists begin to grow and thicken as you walk, seemingly swept in from the sea. Soon your vision is obscured and you can see nothing but mist and fog. These are the mists of time and we ask Aphrodite to help us walk through the mists by sounding Her name:
"Aaaaapphroooodiiiiteeeee Aaaaapphroooodiiiiteeeee Aaaaapphroooodiiiiteeeee"
As you do this notice that the mists are parting and thinning. Look past the mists now as you step into another time to the Ancient Sacred Isle of Aphrodite on which you are standing. See what you see. What does it look like? What trees and plants are there? What birds or animals do you see? What is the weather like? Take your time to notice how it feels to be on Her land and to explore this sacred place.
From the shore, you see Aphrodite’s Temple and after your explorations, you make your way to the Temple. You may find yourself walking or flying or simply transported there from wherever you were. Notice the Temple and how it looks, how it is decorated. Notice any other priestesses there. Speak with them and meet your ancient sister priestesses who have gone before you.
Eventually you make your way into the Temple’s gardens filled with beauty and bounty. Notice the flowers and trees. In the centre of the garden is Aphrodite’s fountain. Approach the fountain and look at your reflection in Aphrodite’s mirror. Sip Her waters and bathe in them if you wish.
When you finish you notice at one end the garden is a canopied pergola in which sit two thrones facing each other. One is for you. When you are ready, make your way to the pergola and sit down in one of the thrones. Rest your left hand on your knee, palm up as if holding an apple. Hold your right hand at heart level with your palm facing outward as if in blessing. Call to Aphrodite:
"Heavenly Aphrodite, in this Your holy temple I call to You and ask to come into Your presence."
Hold this invocation for a moment until you begin to feel Aphrodite emerge. Sing to Her if you wish in welcome to Her. Visualise Aphrodite coming to you and sitting down in the throne opposite you. Feel Her presence and Her beautiful aura. Listen as She speaks to you. This is your time with Aphrodite, to speak to Her, to ask Her your questions, to receive Her guidance and wisdom. Take as long as you need to be with Aphrodite.
As receiving Aphrodite’s counsel, you begin to see shining orbs of golden light coming from different directions being absorbed into Aphrodite’s body and aura causing Her to radiate even more. You see Her energy radiating toward you, into you, your heart, your body. As you feel Her energy within you, sound Her name:
"Aaaaapphroooodiiiiteeeee Aaaaapphroooodiiiiteeeee" (as many times as you wish)
As you are being filled with Her loving energy, visualise arcs of that loving energy going out to those you know who also need Her healing love and light.
When you begin to feel your focus leave and Aphrodite’s energy begin to depart, give thanks to Her:
"O Holy Queen of Heaven, Aphrodite. Thank you for the gift of Your presence in my life. Walk with me through this day. Bless, guide and protect me and all those whose paths I touch today."
As you complete this prayer, feel yourself swept on a breeze back to where you are now as you come back into yourself. When you are ready, open your eyes.
You may wish to sit and contemplate the messages received from Aphrodite. You may also wish to write down your experience and these messages in a journal.
